Momoyama
A Michelin Guide–listed omakase house on Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley, Momoyama does traditional Edomae-style sushi the way it is meant to be done — one deliberate piece at a time, warm rice, seasonal fish, and a counter where you can watch it all happen.
Sit at the counter if you can. Omakase means “I leave it up to you,” and this is a room where that trust is repaid: house-cured mackerel, aged bluefin, black cod, whatever came in best that morning. We know Chef Edy, the owner, and the warmth behind his counter matches what lands on the plate. Reserve ahead — they are closed Sunday and Monday.
It is about ten minutes from the shop, and it has become our standing answer when a client asks where to celebrate something. Book a fresh fade or a beard trim that afternoon, then take your counter seats looking sharp. The rest of our favorite spots can wait for daylight.
